I learned a new term today. Mobbing.

Have you ever noticed a smaller bird chasing after a bird much large than her? If not, take notice next time you see two dissimilar birds flying uncharacteristically.

It’s called mobbing.

This is typically an effort of the smaller bird to drive away predators from a breeding territory, a nest, young, or other vulnerable members in her breed.

When I see this, I admire the smaller bird. I take notice in her. I honor her strength and diligence.

It’s a beautiful representation of the vulnerable saying, “enough”, “no more”.

It’s a beautiful representation of the smaller breed standing up to the larger breeder to protect the more vulnerable.

It’s a beautiful representation of the smaller breed taking care of not only her young, but herself.

When I witness this natural protection, I find my own strength. I find deeper courage to move forward.

My awareness and ability to acknowledge the predatory actions of the larger more dominate breed expands.

I look up. My soul warms. My spine grows tall.
