Land of the Free, Home of the Brave

All statements are the opinion of my own.

I represent myself,

my experience,

and my own perspective.

When, oh when, did we start treating people like objects?

When, oh when, did we start to treat people inhumanely?

The animals, oh the animals, seem to understand

the complexities of the human body and spirit

as I grace the woods,

their keen eyes on my very movements.

When did Grace become the pedestal that

power and destruction boldly stand on?

In 2025, I knew America would experience shifts.

I knew we would experience a shift in priorities.

As America, we always have shifts

with the changing of guards.

I was not; however, expecting the aspects

Of personhood to be the center of the shifts.

I was not; however, expecting to see the words

That describe who I am -

Who I am -

As a human being -

As a mother -

As woman -

To be in question.

And yet,

So many sit on their judgement seats, as they watch people react.

Some reading this -

You are sitting behind your phone, tablet, computer -

Judging.

Land of the free -

Home of the brave.

A beautiful phrase that I questioned as a little girl and

Still

Question as an adult

With a lot more complexity.

I believe in equity for all.

I believe in the land of the free -

For All.

I believe in the home of the brave -

For All.

The animals, the trees, the sky, the river -

They have learned ways to coexist, cohabitate with us all.

Oh how much we can learn

Are still capable to learn.
